I currently have a Russian tortoise and I'm creating her a new cage, I was wondering if there was a way to fill the cage with hardware store mulch, or anywhere else but pet stores (because they're overpriced for the mulch there) that I could fill the cage for a cheeper price. Any recommendations? HELP PLEASE

Any place like a Home Depot nursery any place you can find that has what you want that is chemical free. Even look on line.

Be sure to use hardwood mulch. Don't ever use pine or cedar mulch.

No, you just have to read the ingredients.

well what should i look out for? like no pesticides? no ___? Im use to just grabbing a small bag of mulch from a pet store not going to a hardware store and buying a bag from there, i don't want to harm my tortoise by getting something that i thought was safe but isn't.

Seems fine to me. I'm just a little worried about the cactus part, if it would make him want to eat the substrate. I would try it and see how it goes.
