Hi, my sulcata is 2 years old and eating great.
I'm wondering about the shape of his shell.
I've seen pictures of other sulcatas whose scutes looks smoother.
Are the scutes supposed to be smooth and flat or slightly elevated?

smooth and flats the best, what are you feeding? food, humidity, substrate, exercise and sunlight are the key to a nice smooth shell. smiles, spring

Rarely can we replicate the same ingredients in captivity that they had in the wild, so I think that all Sulcata raised in a captive environment will have some pyramiding and flaring of the carapace...and have that dip over the dorsal scute...

She lives in my backyard with plenty of sun and grass. Do sulcata's prefer humidity? Because we have plenty of that too.

i live in a very humid area too, but i still make an extra effort to give my sulcata more humidity in a concentrated area, galileo also lives outside and we have the benefit of the ocean breezes, but i dont think its enough. its true, its hard to have a perfectly smooth sulcata in captivity, but pyramiding can be kept to a minimum.
