Was wondering what would be better, im debating between doing an eco earth layer on bottom with the surface being orchid/Repti bark or instead doing eco earth mixed with topsoil on a 2:1 eco to topsoil ratio.

Hi Logan:

I'm afraid you're just going to have to try them to see what works best for you and your tortoise.

My preference is straight orchid bark. Second preference is straight cypress mulch. For my baby box turtles, because they like to bury themselves, I use potting soil with a top layer of small orchid bark.

I have been using the Coco Coir, at the direction of many on this site, that you can get from petco. IT absorbs moisture well and Pépe seems to love it. It's a little fine, so sometimes he will nip at it, testing it with his mouth, but never eats even a full bite. (He is also a hatchling sulcata like your 2 babies) I still want to find some Cypress Mulch to see if he will like that better, or maybe use that as a top layer like Yvonne suggests.

Good luck
