I just wanted to re-post this thread regarding the injury to my tortoise: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/russian-tail-spur-injury.113597/

The spur on the end of his tail looks like it's hanging on by a thread. I may or may not give the vet a call tomorrow; I haven't decided yet.

I do see this older post about it not being a big deal: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/tail-hook-gone.72178/ so I'm just trying to keep the wound clean while it heals. Any thoughts? Thanks again.

You can put some Neosporin on it. It will probably fall off. I don't think it is a big deal but people with more experience will be a long to answer your question.

Not a huge deal, it aids in mating but not vital. I would just keep it clean, and use a little dab of that triple antibiotic cream. Should heal up nicely.

Put a little Neosporin on it. He was not very happy. It looks like it would be better for him if the spur just came off entirely, but it's still on enough where that would cause him a lot of pain and bleed a lot. It looks like it may heal sideways.

Cleaned off the wound and it looks a lot better. The spur will probably fall off, but if it's no big deal, then I'm satisfied. :p
