This rescue came to me as a desert tortoise, and because of his small size, I figured he was a young desert tortoise. But then I turned him over. His plastron shows the male characteristics of an adult Texas tortoise. . . long gular and exaggerated scooped out plastron. So maybe he's a cross between the two?

What do you think?
