Well as many predicted at the time of me making them, squirts homemade hides just aren’t going to cut it long term
they’re coming up to around the 10 month mark, they aren’t at the point of needing replacement just yet, but I can see where the reptile resin just isn’t going to hold up inside with her shell brushing against it, I had high hopes when first using it, but they’ll be a loosing battle unfortunately and I’d rather pre plan, bit of an expensive and time consuming mistake on my part! But one I was kind of prepared for and I always said I wouldn’t be stubborn if they didn’t work.
I will say it’s one of the best things we ever made in terms of how much squirt loves her box hide! It’s her number one spot, she chills out in there and sleeps in there most nights, it’s served it’s practical purpose in being the perfect size and too heavy for her to move about, whilst looking really nice in there too

But alas, don’t be like me, thinking you can somehow make hides made of wood last a few years in a humid enclosure, no matter how expensive or specialised the resin is that you use
The alternative is likely going to be light enough for her to move around like she does with her caves
, but we’d rather just move it back by hand and it last her
Here’s the idea, a plastic cat bed of similar dimensions to her box hide(will be cleaned thoroughly before use), my moms partner can get the base cut and have a bigger entrance made for her, I’m thinking either having the base sliced off and keeping the roof, but want it to rest against the wall, and the way the roof bit sticks out will create a gap, which I imagine will encourage little miss to push her way into
so considering flipping it the other way and cutting the roof bit off, or maybe we should try it more or less in tact with a better entrance cut..open to ideas

Then to replace the stool hide, I’ll be getting a plastic one, again with similar dimensions, haven’t decided specifically which one of these yet, but I’ll probably go with the light brown, in keeping with the jungle feel lol

And rest assured the original hides won’t be going to waste! They’ll be used outdoors in summer, safely stored away at night
