I took my tegus in the backyard to walk around since it was a nice warm day. One of them got into my juvenile tortoise pen and wound up in the sleeping enclosure with the tortoises.
How precious.....It looks like they are best friends.

That's how big a tegu gets? Whoa..How big is the tortoise next to him?

That red tegu just turned two years old and is 28 inches. He has a lot of growing to do. They can get close to 4 feet as they get older. The sulcata is between 9 and 10 inches.
My other red tegu, a female, is almost 3 feet already. They grow so, so fast when they are young.

Wow. I've read the numbers before but seeing it next to something I'm familiar with really makes a difference. I bet if I saw one in person my jaw would drop..

He is just beautiful!

Thanks.
Most tegus are docile. Both of mine are very good.
Out of the various color morphs of the tegus, the reds are my favorite.
I do have to admit, they look intimidating. As I know a bite from them would be very painful.

I believe the sulcata is a female. Not totally sure yet. If it is, it will introduced eventually to my breeding colony.
If it is a male, I will sell it. Time will tell:)
