Of my room that is
Spook is finally being put outside for the summer! The night's aren't dipping below 55 any more and it is safe for her to be outside. This weekend I bought a cement mixing tub along with a Tickweed plant and some new (glazes) saucers to hold the water in. Everything is almost done being set up for her now I just need a few finishing touches and help in a top idea and she will be outside in her new home all summer.
Over the long winter we had, Spook hasn't grown much. She wasn't one for food that didn't move so getting any calcium or nutrients in her was hard pressed. Have you ever tried rolling an earth worm in calcium powder? Oy. But thanks to someone else on this thread I managed to get her interested in wet cat food mixed with mazuri and calcium powder. Don't fear this isn't going to be her staple. Now that I know I can get her to eat foods she will start getting eggs cooked with bell peppers, shredded greens, cooked chicken etc mixed in to get her the nutrition she needs. Plus an easier way to get her calcium!
I am in love with her new habitat only thing I don't love is, no top! Tubaware is easy, cut out a hole put chicken wire ont he top and voiala done! This doesn't come with an easy blueprint so to say.
I was wondering if a simple PVC frame would be ok enough to build so it can be set over the enclosure, basically make a PVC table, fill in the holes with chicken wire and slide that over. If so I know what I am picking up this week!
Here are a few pictures attached of Spooks new home and two current hiding places for her. Might throw in one or two of her
I really need to get her growing she's about to be two and she should be double the size she is now! What's in her bowl at that time is cantaloupe, and tonight she will get greens mixed with cooked eggs. Any ideas on what is ok to feed her as either cooked food or commercial food is appreciated!
I've even considered letting her hunt a minnow or two while in her bath to see how she enjoys the stimulation.
Her little wood cottage is hickory wood thats been smoothed out and a chimney added for a homey feel with Ivy that will grow around it hopefully and provide ground cover.
The second is a large glass jar tipped on it's side, filled with dirt and covered to help her feel safe, the rocks are to help hold the dirt on top of the glass.
Soil is a mix of top soil and coco cur. The glass cave will hopefully be filled with moss soon, and I bought concrete to start playing with and make her another hide or two, and even one for Vodka.
Spook even took a worm from my hand recently!
