I ran by walmart to get some dirt because it was closest, but the only dirt they had either contained fertilizer and perlite (obvious no go) or compost. I'm going to lowes today because I know I bought good stuff there, but for future reference, what's up with the compost? Avoid or is is ok?

I never remember post to post what people have or what the plans are. Remind me again, what will the soil be used for?

Check the ingredient list. Much compost is garbage from chicken farms, etc. Not a big deal in a garden, but I am not sure I would use it indoors- the bags usually have an odor. No idea if it is safe for torts.

I would be using some in inside enclosures and some outside.

I wouldn't use it. I found plain old soil at Wal-mart. They had only one kind that didn't have a bunch of "stuff" in it and it was in smaller sized bags.

I boughy some plain top soil at Lowes. I will see if they have the other stuff you linked to next time. Thanks.
