I live in pennsylvania and I have 4 Russian tortoises. 2 are adults and 2 are babies. I was wondering about getting another tortoise like a red foot tortoise. is it bad to mix?

You can't have two different species of tortoise's because they can pass diseases to each other that they would not normally not get in the wild :/

Well, you can have different species, but no they can't be housed together. Also, you will probably have to separate the four you have. So keep a close eye out for bullying. If or when it starts, your going to have to give each it's own enclosure. Bullying can cause illness and even death.

Redfoots tortoises are great. Just house him separately and always safe husbandry techniques to minimize the danger of spreading organisms from one tortoise species to another.

Correct.. You only want to house they same tortoises together. Russians with Russians, Redfoots with Redfoots.... etc...

your baby russians are adorable, by the way, but as everyone else said, a redfoot would need a seperate enclosure.

Yes, if you want what would be overall the very best thing for all your tortoises.

The first thing would be one with a much higher humidity then your Russians. Are you thinking hatchling or older tortoise? I would suggest to look through the Redfoot section and see some of the enclosures in there or the Enclosure section would give you some more great ideas on what folks have done.

Russians are very active torts and at the size you describe you are soon going to have territorial battles on your hands.

Can you create a large outdoor enclosure for them? Russians fight nasty and you don't want to end up with one getting sick or dying

Well I have them outside right now and they are separated. When winter comes I bring them inside together. There home outside is very big.
