I have not seen tortoises choose a mound to nest upon. Perhaps the side and towards the bottom, or at the edge of an overhanging bush, or the corner of an enclosure, but not on top a mound.

Is this tortoise kept in an indoor enclosure in which you have made mounds? Is there a light, heating the nesting site to create a temperature gradient she can choose from? Is the substrate firm enough to hold the shape of a hole she is digging? It it moist but not wet? Is it deep enough to accommodate a 10 - 12" deep nest?

Hi mark
She is in a 8 by 4 enclosure
A couple of the eggs she did lay right in the corner of the enclosure
I have piled up some substrate in several places and kept it moist you can dig a hole within it and theres plenty to get 12 inches deep
Also i have put one up the side of the wall under her basking light
All be it she has not used these
I have had 6 eggs now and its been a few days and no more have come
Is there a way of telling if she has more eggs?
Or i shall have ti take her to the vet fir an xray
She does seem ok and acting normal eating well etc she walking around the house ok and just being her normal self
I am bathing her everyday just hoping the 6 she has had is the end of it
This is her first clutch if eggs she is around 6 yrs old
Any suggestions welcome

I didn't quite understand your second post, are you saying she was with some males before you got her back in August? If so, then there could be a chance that the eggs are fertile.

In my experience it is not normal for a female to lay so many eggs on top of the ground instead of digging a nest. When egg laying season starts, I will usually find one laying on the ground from a young female or one that is new to me. After that they usually start to dig nests.

It would be difficult to nail down exactly why she may be dropping the eggs on the ground instead of digging a nest. My first thought is that she is young and possibly her instincts haven't quite kicked in yet. It could be stress related as well. Do you house her with any other tortoises?
What do you mean egg laying season? Time of year/age?

Time of year.

Most leopards in my area will start laying eggs in early summer and stop in early fall. This is similar to a lot of other breeders I know of across the country.
