Hi, this is my tortoise enclosure that i got with my tortoise from the "chainsmoker" (I call him that because of the smell of his place when I picked up Cruiser). He didn't seem too profesional, so I'm posting a tank review so I can make sure he didn't do something that could harm Cruiser in any way. Thanks!! :D

I am guessing he's a red foot? Don't know too much about them but I would suggest putting something around the bottom of the enclosure at least 6inches high outside of it or inside as he will keep pacing trying to get out which will drive you and him mad!!! How big is the tank? Your tortoise looks very cute

Is it able to climb in and out of that big bowl? I assume it's the water bowl...kinda hard to tell in the pics. That hay will also mold if you have high humidity.

Nice looking tortoise.

This is the same set up that I was given. I have yet to get a tort yet but from the reading I have done, I came to the conclusion that this is not a great set up due to poor ventilation and the inability to create separate temperature zones. Also I read that glass is bad due to cracking. Forgive me for using improper terms but I am green. Am I wrong about this type of tank? I would like to use it but I have been leaning towards a table set up or a plastic bin type.

The steep sides on the water bowl look like a potential flip hazard.

Maybe a shallower container would be safer.

Good luck.

yeah, i was thinking about the fliping and put the peices of rock at the bottom, and hes been really good about not pacing, as in walking on his hay most of the time. ill try the thing around the glass because he has been pacing a little.ill try burying the bowl to make it a little shallower into the ground, and put some more plates on the bottom.

Is your substrate cypress bark? Reprtibark? I would remove the hay, sink the bowl into the substrate, put a few rocks in it so he can climb out easier, and get your substrate nice and damp and raise your humidity.

From the looks of it, and the description in your other post, you probably have a coil UVB bulb. I would remove it all together and give your tort as much natural UVB as possible until you can get a power sun or strip UVB bulb. Covering the top would also help with your humidity. Right now I use foil but will be getting plexiglass cut to fit soon

ok so do i just put him next to a window?

No he needs to be outside in direct sunlight. UVB doesn't penetrate glass so he needs to be in direct sunlight. What are your temps outside right now? 80s are good to put him outside in if its that high where you live.
