Tortoise Medications

Does anyone know if there is a website or a pharmacy where I can buy medication for one of my tortoises? He needs antibiotics. I live in Southern California so maybe someone can help with my question. I did schedule an appointment with a vet but thought I asked since the medication from the vet can be expensive.

Usually you can't get antibiotics or other medicines online or at a pharmacy, if they require a prescription.

There are websites that you can use a prescription and get the medicine cheaper, rather than getting it at the vet. Usually prices at veterinary hospitals cost more for convenience. Same with buying stuff at chain stores, they are able to raise prices because it is convenient for you to just get an item whenever you need it, which is why online stores are able to mark prices down. I only know this from experience and from what so many other people have told me.

I highly recommend Doctor Fosters and Smiths. They have all the best products at marked down rates, plus it's owned by Veterinarians and they also have a pharmacy section on their website. Hope this helped.

What is the tortoise situation? What leads you to believe he is in need of antibiotics? Antibiotics for what ailment?

Most often a tortoise's runny nose should NOT be medicated because it is usually caused by stress and is not an infection. Administering medications when you haven't had the animal tested to see if there is an infection, just causes an immunity to the antibiotics. I wouldn't administer medications without them being prescribed by the doctor.
