Just want to know what everyone's opinion is on these "pellets"
I see them in various pet shops that sell tortoises and espescially the one where i get my substrate from. I always thought you should stick to what they would eat in the wild?

These were the pellets. I tried him with a few after they had been soaked for a good few hours because i didnt like the idea of them swelling in his stomach, he seems to like them but so far i have only given him a few a handful of times :/ i dont quite know what to make of them

Well sometimes i buy the colourful pellets just to add to the diet.
I soak in freshly sqeezed orange juice on fruit days as a treat. ( I have redfoots )

I also have 'Forest tortoise food' Which is great and is basically mush to add and mix in with the vegetables!

Mazuri is not available here, but have just found out nutrazu is the same so im going to be investing! :)

i use to vary the diet more,

I think citric fruits are toxic to redfoots.

Citrus is not toxic and a SMALL amount of things like navel oranges are on many diet lists for the species. Most citrus is very low in calcium and too much acid would disrupt their system just as it would ours.

I would not bother with fruit juice as a soak just because it is high in sugars and Mazuri is already sweetened and flavored. I also notice that Mazuri themselves do not recommend soaking, so I stopped doing it and my guys seem to eat it about the same. For a young one, I might dip it quickly in water, but soaking probably leeches out too many nutrients... besides making it messy.

How would you get hold of the Nutrazu though. After a quick look you'd have to ship a large amount over. But what if they didn't like it? & is getting the Mazuri the same theory?

In the UK.

When I bought my RF they were feeding him pellets but when I read up about the ones they were giving him they weren't recommended for RFs so when I bought him I didn't buy them. I've not seen the forest tortoise food though!! when I've looked at all the pellets before they've had something in them that RFs can't digest like other tortoises. Interested to read more about that brand! :)

After trying all the different "tortoise kibbles", I've found that the Marion Red Stick tortoise chow to be well accepted by both mine and other's tortoises.

Has the same food value as the Mazuri, and the color red seems to really excite the torts.

The T-Rex "fruity pebbles" stuff is probably safe to feed, so long as it's first soaked in water (as should all kibble be), and is only a small part of the general diet.
