Hi - I'm a long time lurker on this site and have gotten a lot of great advice just reading all the posts from everyone.

I'm wondering if you can tell me what sex my tortoises are? They are just a little over two years old. I got them in Nov of 2011 and they were already about 9 months old then. The big 'guy' is Sheldon and the little one is Dozer (Dozer stuck his legs out for his photo).

Also, should I be worried that one is so much bigger than the other when they are the same age?

Thanks!
Amy

Hi Amy:

They're still a little small to say for sure. Most small tortoises look female until the get a bit bigger than yours. And yours right now look female.

Thank you, guess I'll just have to wait until they get a little bigger.

And thanks for letting me know about the posting guidelines. :)

Welcome! Nice looking torts there. The first picture looks more female to me. Not sure on the second one though. You'll still need to wait a while before you can tell for sure.

Don't worry about size. They all grow at different rates. Just make sure the larger one isn't bullying the smaller one and taking her food away.

Yeah, Sheldon is going to have to get a new name, Shelly. I'm a little sad because I really liked that name for him, um I mean her.

Oh Amy, you can still call her Sheldon. I mean Dozer is not a very feminine name either... they can live gender confused lives. LOL!!!!
