I'm very interested in buying a Hermann's tortoise (if my parents allow me to), and I was wondering how much it would cost to buy the tortoise/house/lighting etc? I would keep the tortoise indoors, and would only have one.
I'm 15 so I have to save up for the tortoise and its equipment.
Does anyone have any additional advice before I get one?
Thank you :)

Hello,I recently purchased a baby hermanns tortoise, 4 months ago. So far my cost on hosting have been about 100 dollars. I have torie in a big plastic pot on the porch outside (which I can move inside any time I want to, since it is on wheels). Next Month I plan on building a large enclosure, on are screened in porch. In case you are wondering I am 12, it took about a month to convince my parents. I bought the tortoise my self and most of the supplies.

Good on you for doing your research before you get your tort!! Yes, one tort is best. I recently rescued 2 of them, but had to separate them because the male was harassing the female a bit too much.

I'm not an expert in tort care--still learning lots from these awesome people!--but from everything I've read so far about hatchlings and adults, adults are much easier to care for.

I'm in Canada, so let me know if you need Canadian rates. I paid nothing for my 4'x4' tort table because I upcycled a shipping crate.

That's really cool! Good job! I'll have to keep that in mind, if ever get a hatchling. Are predators a concern in your area?
