I think it's a horror. I had a RES that someone brought to me to "cure". It had escaped her enclosure, and spent the night in her pool. It took a long time to die from the chlorine, but it did die. That poor turtle must have been so stressed carrying that heavy camera, being chased by a dog, and then finally finding what he thought to be a pond, or a safe heaven, only to find out it wasn't. More sad then funny to me...IMHO. When are people going to realize that "pets" are not "toys"?

Im with Terry. Even though he said it was safe and all it still was probably very stressful for the turtle.

I don't know, I thought it was a pretty cool video. They claimed no chlorine, it boldly ran past french bulldog. It didn't look stressed to me at all. Certainly no more stress than any wild turtle experiences everyday in the wild.

do you all really think that turtle swam too the surface on its own too get air with that camera on its back?it may be cute too some but if u really think about it it's cruel,being someones pet is cruel enough,without the circus acts

There is nothing wrong with this thread and no need for mod intervention. If you don't like the "You Tube" video, you can go to that site and complain about it. The Tortoise Forum has nothing to do with the site or the person who made the video.

i think it was a cool video. chlorine free water, it's fine. as far as stressful on the turtle to have a lightweight camera strapped to it's back, i doubt it. animals aren't made of fine china. they are A LOT tougher than we give them credit for. i seriously doubt a camera strapped to it's back and a dip in a chlorine free pool will cause it to croak.

There are no chemicals that I know of that are good for a swimming pool, that would be OK for a water turtle. Years ago when I was into water turtles, lots of people would bring me turtles that they found in their pool. Either they came from ponds from around here (there are many) or they escaped from someone's pond. Most of them that were in the pool too long eventually died. My own son's turtle got out of his pond, and he found him in his swimming pool in the Spring, but he was lucky, because it was before he put any chemicals in to shock it. His turtle was OK. Maybe there are new biological cleaners out there now for pools that I don't know about. It's been over ten years since I had my pool.
That poor turtle was clearly stressed running from the dog, and searching for someplace to hide. Things like that really get me sick.

Here is what they wrote:

1. The water is completely free of chlorine. The water recive a special treatment, what is absolutely safe for the turtle.
2. The camera is neutral buoyancy. When they jump to the pool they always go to the bottom because it's the most safety place for them.
3. This kind of turtles can keep their breath for minutes.
4. She (turtle) is 2o years old. Not bad I think.
5. She has her own pond with plants and other turtles.

Personally I don't like the part with the dog- the poor turtle is obviously stressed.
I also wonder what "special treatment" the pool has that is safe for turtles...hmm
My cousins have a chlorine-free pool but it still has chemicals.

I thought it was pretty interesting... And plus its not like the guy has the camera on for hours, it seemed to me he only put it on for a couple minutes and took it off... I liked it...
The turtle didn't look stressed to me, but whatever
