I got this new heat lamp for my mud turtle to bask under with a 75 watt bulb, and it says it reaches 99 degrees. Is it too much heat for him? Also how long should I keep it on during the day?

Is it placed over the dry area? Have you ever seen your turtle out of the water basking? Mud turtles usually don't. I would situate the light so it's 12" above the basking platform, set it on a timer to come on at 7a and go off at 7p and forget it.

Yes the top of the rocks are above the surface of the water, I haven't seen him do it yet but he does move to the darker area of the tank when it's on, and thanks for the information
