Hey everyone!

I tried searching and searching for information about this, and I’m sure it’s something basic! After soaking my baby sulcatas I noticed a black growth on the plastron on one! It looks to be going through! Please help!

How long have you had this baby? It does look like the umbilical scar, but it should have closed completely before you received him. Has it been like this the whole time, or did this just develop?

If it just appeared, I would be concerned that there is some infection under the plastron.

I'm going to call for some help... I'm not experienced with something like this.

How old is the baby? From what I can see, it looks as though the spot is the scab or scar from the yolk sac attachment healing. It should heal over in about a week or two if there is no infection, etc. If the baby is over 4 weeks old, I would have expected it to be gone by that time.

Keep watching it (but don't touch it or play with it), and if there seems to be any bleeding or a pinkish tinge in the shell area around it, I would seek veterinary help.

Thanks for that!
I never asked if there is anything special I should be doing to reduce the risk of infection and get things healing faster!
