uvb absorption

my little lucky star tort spends 80% of time in his hide,
he only spends an hour or less sometimes outside of his hide, I don't think he could absorb enough while he is still a baby.
any comments on this?????:shy:

by the way, I got him a week ago

Don't worry about it. They do the same sort of thing in the wild. Babies spend most of the day hiding in the shadows. As long as your artificial sun is shining somewhere in the enclosure, he will seek it out as needed.

If they can get just a couple times out in the sun a week, then you really don't have to worry about UV.

It is actually kind of amazing how little real sunlight it takes to provide enough UVB. Even a big old human only needs about an hour a week or so.
