Hold it right side up with the "button" on top facing the UV tube.
You want a reading around 3.0 at the tortoises level.

ordered it from Amazon , there is another site that is mentioned as well but im familiar with Amazon so that's where I purchased it. I was told from a few on here that's there one you wantI would very much like to get one of these, but I didn't know a good one from a piece of junk. Is it simply a Solarmeter 6.5R, and where did you get it?
so I got new bulbs because it was reading 0.3 from his height I put the new bulb in and now it's reading 0.6? I would have to set the bulb in the substrate to get the 3.0 reading. have I been using the wrong bulbs?? my bulbs are about 24" from the substrateI answered that in your other post.

I can take it back and get the t5. no, the 24" is the distance upIt sounds like you must be using a T8 UV light?
A T5 can broadcast very far.
A T8 really can't.
24" is very far away. (Or is that the length)
12" would be better.
Get either a SOLARMETER 6.5I would very much like to get one of these, but I didn't know a good one from a piece of junk. Is it simply a Solarmeter 6.5R, and where did you get it?
A T5 HO UV is twice as powerful as the T8 type.I can take it back and get the t5. no, the 24" is the distance up
A T5 HO UV is twice as powerful as the T8 type.
The T8 is now considered "Old school". And is no longer really recommended. Except for very small enclosures because of the limited distance that the UV is broadcast.

If you didn't have that SOLARMETER, your tortoise would be lacking some serious UV.
