I'm setting up a 50g zoo med low boy for my young sulcate tortoise. I'm looking at getting the Zilla Slimline UVB T8 Fluorescent Fixture... With the light being less than 10" above the tortoise, should I get the recommended Desert 50 UVB, or the Tropical 25 UVB?

Open tables don't work well for sulcatas unless the entire room is warm and humid all the time, year round. Is it going into a fish room or reptile room?

If not, give these a read through:

Living room. The plan is to kind of make it into a coffee table. A lot of the top will be covered in glass tops, so the humidity might be more stable.

It's no use only covering most of it. You will have to cover all of it for the humidity to stay, because even partially covered, it will quickly become the humidity of the room.

I have poison dart frogs in a vivarium that is mostly covered and it stays pretty close to 80% humidity all the time. Now I know that the set up is going to be completely different with the sulcata.

How do other people keep their sulcata setup the proper humidity? I'm sure they don't all have dedicated humid rooms that they keep them in.

Closed chambers. I, in essence, make a small "room" for the tortoise to live in. Since the air is "captured" in the enclosure and not mixing with the cooler dry room air, it is easy to heat it and maintain humidity. Uses a fraction of the electricity that way too.
