hello all. I am wondering if you could all tell me how much you think a check would cost for my tortoise? I know you all wont be 100% accurate because of where we all come from but just an average of everyone's guesses would be great. Happy 4th of July!

It all depends upon what you're going to have done.

I've never understood why my vet tacks on an "exotic exam" fee. I get charged the regular $35 office visit, then another $25 for exotic examination. Then if you want a fecal test, its another few bucks. If he administers any injections its more.

Please don't allow your vet to give the tortoise a vitamin A injection. This is totally unnecessary and might be harmful to your tortoise.

My best guess would be around $100.

Is your tort sick. Showing signs of parasites/worms or illness? Is it a wild caught or import? If you just want it check for worms, just bring them a fecal sample. I have had my CB leopard since May last year and he hasn't seen a vet yet. If he never shows symptoms of parasites or illness, he never will see a vet. The office visit in my area for a reptile vet is 57-60 and fecal 27-30, about the same as my dogs vet.

My own vet charges me the same exam fee ($46 initial fee, $30 if any rechecks needed) that is charged for my dogs and cat. Anything else needed is extra of course, just like for the dogs and cat.

Thanks for all the input. He doesn't appear to be sick or unhealthy in any way, he just sleeps a lot and hasn't eaten much lately. We were just curious if it was something we should check in to.
