Here's an image from a video I took this morning. My dog chased a blue heron out of the yard that towered over him.
It was knee deep in the turtle pond hunting the bass. These guys will eat turtles if they're small enough; luckily mine don't fit the criteria, but I'll be certain to do a headcount when it warms up tomorrow.
The turtles are in brumation under the leaves so they should be fine. Most people see them as pests in my area, but we're surrounded by water and woods, so you should net your koi ponds etc. That bird is just paying bills man.
I personally don't mind if he takes a bass or two as the terrapin drag them out the water every year to eat them. People don't believe me when I say it, but I guess I'll get footage 🤣
