Hello Tortiose Forum first post here! I found the site last night an have been browsing it since. :D

My question is: Does it matter what tempature the water in his dish is?

I stuck the prop from one of the Zoo-Med digital thermometer in it and it read about 73oF which is 2-3 degrees colder then the cool side of the tank, which is where the dish is. The warmer side is around 90oF and the basking spot abit warmer. Still trying to dial it all in.

Thanks.

Welcome to TFO. I just fill it everyday with semi-warm water then let it go to room temp, in my pens it is 80* When I do soaking however I put a heating pad under the soaking pan to keep the water warm.

Hi Michiba54:

Welcome to the forum!!

I don't worry about the temp of the water in the waterer. Just fill it from the faucet and leave it.

Yeah! I don't like any water (drinking or soaking) to be cooler than lukewarm...and I don't even like it to get down to lukewarm:p

Not to be contrary, but my Red-foots seem to prefer the water dish in the warm side. When the water is warm to the touch, they drink more often and soak more often than they do when it is on the cool end.

My little leopard tort won't touch his water if it's cold, but loves the warm water. But my red foots and sulcata don't care at all.
