Hello @Natalie44
Love the Hermann’s tortoises and have one Western and one Eastern. You will love having one.
HermanniChrs is very knowledgeable about Hermann’s and has worked with them for years. If he says it’s an Eastern it’s most likely an Eastern. The photos referenced before are from his site hermannihaven.com. Check it out and hope its helpful.

Won't let me post pics for some reason abut I have 2 Herman's (both kept completly separate) my older one is definitely a eastern but the little one is confusing me 😂.... Well whatever your little one is I'm sure you will have many many years of happiness..

100% they are Eastern Hermann’s.
No doubt about it. Westerns, as I said, would be much different. Stand by for a photo, but you can use my site HermanniHaven.com, too.
Interesting! The initial photo I thought the exact same as you, but then this photo of some of the others the breeder has threw me because their colouring and pattern did look more western imo, I guess the easterns can have brighter colouring too then or?

Ok, a few quick photos.
First pic is of 2 westerns.
Second pic is of an eastern (right) and western (left).
Third pic is side profile of a western.

Always pay close attention to markings before color, with babies. Westerns have extremely bold, irregular markings with the exception of the keyhole symbol on the 5th vertebral scute that’s seen even on fresh hatchlings. Easterns have more of a singular blotch on each scute and typically no distinct keyhole symbol.
