Recent adoption of what I am told is an 'ornate box turtle'. is that the same as the ornate wood box turtle i am seeing here or should i be on the sub-category 'american box turtles'?

If what you have is an Ornate Box turtle that it is a North American Box turtle. If it is an Ornate Wood turtle then it is from South America. There is no common name "Ornate Wood Box turtle". If you can post a few good clear photos of the turtle I'm sure someone here will be able to determine what species you have.
If you have an ornate box turtle then you should be on the sub category of American box turtles.
