What species is this?

Hey so my friend just go this turtle for his birthday from his mom... Long story short he lives half way across the world in Brazil and he has no clue what type it is. any help is appreciated

Looks to me like some kind of box turtle.

It's a box turtle, but I don't know which sub species. They're not native to Brazil.

Do you have any other pictures of it?

It is a box turtle, and most likely the Eastern subspecies (Terrapene carolina carolina).
Care is the same as for the other eastern US species.
