At what age does a tortoise reach adulthood? I have just re-homed a 12 month old horsfield tortoise and was curious as to when he would reach adulthood, for when a bigger tortoise table needs to be bought for the future of my little tort's life.
Thanks!

It depends on how big he is already, what and how much you feed him, temperatures, if/how long you let him hibernate,...
Probably between 3 and 10 years. ;)

Tortoise adulthood isn't measured like most other animals. Generally, you go by the size of the tortoise. Like was said above, there are many factors, and can range from a couple of years to over a decade. Some of the large tortoises take even longer.

I would agree with Lisa.

Its more of a size thing than age. I think a male could probably reproduce at 4-4.5 inches. A female would probably have to be a little bigger at around 5.5-6 inches. Just guessing here.

By the time they reach 4", they should have an enclosure at least 4x8'.
