So Franklin’s basking bulb died this morning. It was an Arcadia incandescent flood light. I think 75w?? (And I didn’t have it that long man!) Anyways, everyone on here says “go to a hardware store and get 65w ones for cheap” I have been to 3 diff hardware stores (lowes and Home Depot and then one really sketchy one that was a “ma and pa” type of shop) and did not find them. They had incandescent flood lights that were 200w and up but I thought that was too much and I also don’t have a dome that can take that much wattage. I was told by a worker they don’t make them anymore.

The Arcadia bulb I bought Franklin b4 was from Amazon and the first one came busted. All I can think to do is order another one and hope it comes in soon and in tact.

I’m just really wondering if I’ve missed something?? If there’s a hardware store I’ve missed that yall get them from?? Like ?? (also petstores around here have nothing as well. Petco and petsmart r all I have and they have nothing for tortoise besides some pellets 🙃.)

Y does the universe make tortoise owning so difficult AAAAAAAA

Ugh anyway. Franklin will be baskless for a while :((

The hardware stores had to remove them all, because of the ban. Now that the ban has been lifted, I don't know if they have started making them again for regular use. For now you might be stuck with Pet stores or Amazon.

Arcadia Golden sun and Flukers are two brands to look for in the US.
I actually can’t find any flood lights in fluckers or Arcadia in stores here. I can’t even find flukes floods online, only basking lights. I’ve also checked and every “cheaper” option on Amazon says “incandescent” in the title but in the actual product description it says “LED!” 🙄
Ugh.
Ik he needs an incandescent flood light at low wattage and NOT a basking but DANG it’s hard to find one 😭😭

The Golden Sun is a brand name made specifically for the US market, which ja why it has been one of the only ones available. But because I don't live there myself I feel like I can't help you much 🫤

Does anyone know a good basking lamp on amazon or has recommendations for germany? I can only find LED bulbs in hardware stores or very expensive "reptile lamps" which also have UVB (but I read its better to do the both seperate from
another). thank you!

Maybe ExoTerra Daylight Basking Spot (available on Amazon). Or ask around in pet stores that sell Arcadia products if they can order Arcadia Solar Basking Floodlight bulbs from a supplier. Other bulbs of similar shape and with frosted glass sleeves are likely to be okay too.

There are also ReptiZoo and ExoTerra bulbs labeled as Intense Basking Spot. These can be used as well, when positioned correctly (generally, farther from substrate than flood lamps). I would be cautious to use them with species prone to pyramiding (like leopards, redfoots, radiateds) or large tortoises. Maybe @DAANFEMA can share some details on his setup (and come up with better stores recommendations).

Thank you so much! I finally found a website where I can order the Arcadia Floodlight. Is this the one you mentioned?

@Alex and the Redfoot thanks for mentioning me!

@Leonie Yes, I use the ExoTerra intense basking bulbs alongside with Arcadia T5s and a 70w metal halide.

Despite their name they are incandescant bulbs with a very nice beam and readily available in europe. I don't like the Arcadia golden sun bulbs, the color coating changes their spectrum and the actual irridiance you get is very unreliable and changes from bulb to bulb.

We shared the irridiance charts of the mentioned bulbs and discussed the details in this thread:
