Green vs Brown poop? I know, I there are bunches of threads about this, but can't find the direct answer I'm looking for! :(
Anyway, for the majority of the time, my russian's poop is brown and solid with the occasional urate... but now it has become green? It's still solid, so no worries. ;)
I read that brow to green poop can result from a sudden change in diet, but I haven't changed anything in over a year! Is there a reason for this? And which should I be 'striving' towards- brown or green?
Thank you! :D

Brownish black is what I see unless they eat grapes, then green. I look at the consistency and not the color so much. It is odd that it would change with the same diet. Have they been allowed to roam outside? Maybe they got into something there?

Yes, he went outside in the summer almost every day, but he hasn't been able to due to the fact that it's much colder out. He has weeds and such in his yard, but why would it change now, instead of way back when?

Since you've had to bring him in, his diet has changed from grazing to your feeding him. Grazing provides more fiber, plus they eat a lot of dead stuff outside. Now he's probably getting fresh food, hence the green.

Yes, I've picking straight out of seed boxes!
Bleh, I'll have to watch out for stuff in his yard next year! So brown equals more fiber? (and dead stuff)

When I said dead stuff I wasn't referring to dead lizards and snakes, however they might just eat that too. I meant dead plants. Very fibrous and good for them. My tortoise yard is full of dead grass because we're in a drought and we've been told not to water. My tortoises eat it anyway. Of course I'm sure they prefer green grass, but when in Rome.

Oh man...then you haven't had to deal with goose poop. That's got to be the worst!

Oh yes, I know :D I guess I at least trust him not to eat dead animals! I'm think crunchy leaves, etc. Bleh.
Do they have to eat more if it's dried?

Don't trust them, Turtle! Mine inhaled a dead rat and searches the yard for stray cat piles. They have no manners at all! And am I doing something wrong? My tortoises poo reeks!! For an animal that eats mostly leaves, I have no idea what's going on in there!

:confused:o_O What?? But don't redfoots like a little protein? I can't imagine how that could even be appealing to mine!
My russians poops hardly smells at all, you practically have to shove it your face! Of course, turtle poop can smell quite.... umm... yeah.
And my sulacata's poop is just big. And there's a lot of it.
Maybe it was the dead rat... o_O:confused:

I thought that that stink was normal. All of my Red foots have stunk. Wow...............
Protein = stinky poop. Compare cats poop to say a cow. Much different! I mean yes cow poop does smell (then again maybe cows aren't the greatest example since they eat grains too) But carnivore poo always smells revolting because of the proteins and left over unused dead-stuff in there, torts just poop out grass left overs (minus ones that eat protein that's different)
Nank's poo is pretty aweful sometimes, but that's because he will ONLY use the water as a toilet (how polite...) so the water sludge for a day or 2 can get kinda ripe... but like if you stuck your nose in a bag of dead greens kinda way. My cousins Russian pooped right under hi heat lamp one day and when she came home it had the cooked poo effect and had stunk op her room through the day, still not like cat poo though (eww I have my desk right near the litter box and often need to evacuate after he goes )
