What other tortoise other than Sulcata is good for Arizona climate. I have been looking for Desert Tortoise but have not found anyone that has any, so I am wondering if there is another tortoise that I can get that can deal with Arizona climate?

Leopards are very similar to Sulcatas and come from a hot and arid envrionment. I would think they would be suitable. I see desert tortoises offered all over the place out west. I'm surprised you can't find one. Ask a few people on this forum who have them and I bet they can hook you up quickly.

Indeed, African Leopards are very fun torties to have as they do not hibernate {and so are active year long}, they are very beautiful with their 'spots', and only grow to be about 35-40 pounds on average {not nearly the size that sulcatas get to be} and so are easily cared for.

I recently added one little beauty to my critter corner from an xllnt reptile show and he was only $125.00 there {captive bred} whereas the one I purchased a year 1/2 ago from a local pet store was $300.00 ~ Obviously, if there will be a reputable Reptile Show in your area, it would be wise to look there. Also, you can start setting up an outdoor enclosure now and have it ready for when you do find the tortie you were meant to care for.

I really believe if you follow the advice that Yvonne gave you in the other posting about a DT wanted, you will find yourself to be a happy owner of a desert tortie.

Enjoy your adventure!
