This is my first full summer with my 5 inch Russian tortoise I am worried about predators in my area. I can take him inside at night but during the day I am worried about crows, and hawks. Another unrelated worried is that were I live it can get up to a feels like of 105f in the summer on a really hot day? Thanks in advance.

Birds won't mess with a 5 inch tortoise, but your dog will.

Underground shelters help avoid the heat, as does deep shade, sprinklers and misters.

The tortoise should have an insulated shelter with temperature controls for night time and for rain and inclement weather. Read the thread at the end to see how to do this.

If you are worried, make a full cage out of a large dog kennel or chicken coop:

Providing deep shade is especially important when it gets hot:

Hopefully you’ll find some ideas in here too, some great predator proof options, and you can make a secure night box or bring him in at night🐢💚
