Just wondered if there is a guide for sulcata tortoises? I know of the McIntyre ratio for horsfields and the Jackson ratio but obviously sullys r up there with the big boys and would be nice to have a ROUGH guide (I know they all grow differently).
My 9 month old seems to be really beefing up and piling on the weight, he has never had any store bought stuff, I'm determined to keep him organic lol since I got him young I thought it was the perfect opportunity to start out with the right foods. He eats grass every day with a few weeds each day with calcium too. Raising him in a closed chamber to try and keep him looking good, he has uvb and heat lamps and bathed daily.
I have 4 horsfields but he is my first sully, I know they grow big and fast just got a little worried the other day when I seen how light people's hatchlings were in comparison.
He is always hungry lol and he still fits in my hand! Am i right in thinking as long as he is eating the right foods and getting everything else he needs there is no cause for concern?

I don't put much faith in those ratios and find no use for them.

How much does he weigh?

That is pretty good for a 9 month old. You are doing fine.

Aw phew thanks!
Just went into panic mode when I noticed ones a little older but around half what he is, glad there's no need for alarm

Thanks again from me and Ollie Boo

I'd say yours is middle of the road for a baby that has had favorable conditions its whole life. That's a good thing. I've seen bigger and smaller, but that is not necessarily good or bad. Dry started ones, improperly fed ones, or improperly housed ones, tend to be much smaller than yours at this age.

While some people have no use for charts, some of us like a way other than 'eyeballing' to get a gauge of how our torts are growing just as newer parents are reassured by learning where their child is on growth chart percentiles.

Yes, just as some people are from tiny stock and others hefty or super tall, torts vary. Still...

It isn't a bad thing, an unreasonable pressure to perform or anything else. Just a ballpark figure to use. I am finding that from measurements posted all throughout this thread, the formula I found last year is a workable one.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1432466290.165944.jpg
I hope you will find this a useful guideline.
