Washing machine has a hole in the drum and it has been leaking for some. The landlords are coming to look at replacing the damaged skirting and floorboards before the engineer comes back on Friday.

Is the washing machine their responsibility Natrah? I hope so so that you're not landed with the costs.
As much as I'd rather fix and reuse things, sadly it's often cheaper to buy a new washing machine than have a big repair like that.
I hope it's all sorted out for you soon.

I'm insured with Domestic and General so the repairs should be covered but I'll see what they say when they say next week. It's a shame that this should have before I go on holiday but at least I'm getting into a routine.

I remember the washing machine breaking down when I was caring for dad so at least I don't have that to worry about now.

It's my washing machine but it's insured with Domestic and General.

PS: I hope you're enjoying your respite from your neighbours Lyn.

The washing machines in kitchens in the UK/western Europe seemed strange to me until I saw the washing machines in bathrooms in Eastern Europe, then the kitchen didnt seem so bad. They seem to be done with more care to the aesthetics when they're in the kitchen.

Ok........did you guys know that Maytag once made an internal combustion engine powered clothes washer? Neither did I so don't feel bad.

This one is circa 1922 or so. The red and white one next to it was a 1919 . They both employed a small 2stroke engine and the guy started it for us and washed those clothes. They started with a step lever...very simple, very easily started. Cool stuff!

Hello everyone, just thought I would stop in for a second. I have been doing ok. Dealing with life on life's terms. Can be a bit overwhelming at times.
Rose and I are in our first night at a hotel. We are headed to Michigan, to see my sons and grandchildren. Plus fishing in a salmon tournament with one of my sons and 2 granddaughters.
Hope everyone is doing ok. I will try to be around the CDR more often.
Hopefully pictures of some salmon also.

Here in Finland we usually have our washing machines in the bathroom or in a separate room called something like "household maintenance room". I have also found it strange to have them in the kitchen.

My Grandpa told me that in the 50s they lived in an apartment building and had to carry their washing machine to the basement where there was a sauna every time they wanted to use it (and there wasn't an elevator). Looking at those machines I wonder how much theirs weighed.
