That lamp is for heat only . I dont think they put out any uvb . I use a t8 10.0 uvb fixture combo . Looks like a hood fixture for a fish tank . They are the best . The lamp you have can be used for night heat . But for a Russian tortoise you are going to need a way bigger enclosure . Minimum 4/8 feet or an outdoor setup is best given your outdoor temperature.

There are plans in the next month or two for both to have a room ( like real room) of their own. This right hand to god is only temporary. They are pretty much only in it at nite. They are outside. With the kids. We just don't have them this weekend. What can I do to improve it. I'm like a type "A" person.... Your making me wig our!

Don't trip . If you look at the Russian section Tom and others have some good care sheets follow them and you can't go wrong .

That's it. I can't wake them up anymore. Lol. They are grumpy! What do you think is best in the terrarium? This stuff we put in now I HATE! If they get wet it sticks! I'm not puttin sand either! There is no way that's good for folds in the skin! Btw the Russian I feel like he's getting chubby. Is that normal?

Yes Russian tortoises look fat . You can use dirt from the yard as long as it's clean . I know how can dirt be clean . What I'm saying as long as no pesticides or fertilizers have been used . You can go to Home Depot and get organic potting soil with out the little white Styrofoam balls in it . Cyprus mulch is a good bedding .

Ummmm.... Not dirt. That cost $20 for a 5 lbs bag. Sand was $30. My fault. Cedar chips we were using forTaco... He's way bigger. Told my fiance it was like climbing Mount Everest for Tudor. So he bought me that. Was good idea at first. In thinking the grass is better!

You don't have to get rid of the current substrate...simply get peat moss and add to the top of the current substrate...moisten it a bit then hand press/pack down the substrate to allow a firm footing so the tort can develop their muscles properly.....are you housing two different species in the same enclosure? I think I am not reading that right???
