I saw this post on IG and wanted to repost here to try to spread the word. There is a 50 year old sulcata at Devore shelter that is on the euthanasia list. It needs out fast.

I wonder if they are keeping it warm?
Definitely not. Devore is one of the worst shelters there is. They dont even give dogs blankets and they absolutely will put it down. It is more than likely going to be put down. It’s so upsetting

We have already picked up the tortoise and he is at our vet right now. They said it had pneumonia and was being given batril (terrible) but the tortoise has gone down hill since the vet treatment, kept outside in a dog kennel, no heat, nothing. But we have him now and are doing everything possible to save his life. When Dana picked him up this morning, he is in very bad shape. Head to the side, labored breathing and no resistance to his limbs. We hope to of got him in time. 💚🐢

Oh my goodness I am so relieved but I also feel sick to my stomach about his condition. Absolutely devastated. Please keep me updated on his condition. Thank you so much for taking him in

I'm so happy y'all have him but so scared and nervous.
It is one of the absolute worst shelters. So much neglect.
Why are places like that even allowed to operate...being so cruel to animals. Makes me sick.

Thank you for trying! He had absolutely no chance at that "shelter".

How they treated his pneumonia tells all about how much they know tortoises... My tortoise is from a shelter, so this hits close to home, but it is a no kill shelter. Basically, once the animals overstay the limit for euthanasia, a non-profit connected to the shelter adopts them and keeps on trying to find them new homes. But this takes a lot of volunteers and foster homes.
