Hello friends!
I made an account for this forum so I could post this urgent request. For around 12 years, my family has had a yellow bellied (slight chance of actually being red eared) slider turtle named Squirtle. My parents are separating, and I'm in university, so we need to re-home Squirtle as soon as possible. Additionally, I am *not* Squirtle's caretaker, but his primary caretaker (a member in my household) is unfortunately disabled, so we urgently need to have him adopted to a good home within the next month. We already tried contacting many rescue services (for a few years now, actually), but they were all full or didn't take yellow bellied turtles.
We're hoping that somebody in the Southeast Michigan area (or elsewhere who's willing to travel) with aquatic turtle experience would be willing to take him in. There's no fee or anything like that, but we also will not be providing any starter equipment (as what we have is unfortunately faulty). The expectation is that whoever adopts Squirtle already has an environment ready for him (we would like to see photos).
Squirtle's previous environment was mostly terrestrial with shallow water, so he needs gradual re-introduction into a proper semi-aquatic environment so he can become comfortable with deeper swimming again.
Clarified Information:
Name: Squirtle
Sex: Male
Age: ~12
Location: Novi, MI
Note 1: Squirtle is currently physically healthy (has had prior vet check-ups), but emphasizing again that he needs help swimming in deeper water. He is used to very shallow water. His shell also gets little bit dry sometimes.
Note 2: If possible, after adopted, I would also appreciate seeing occasional photos of him and how he's doing! I grew up with him!
I am deeply grateful towards anybody who is able to receive Squirtle. He's a fantastic little guy!
