Me and my daughter will be so happy to collect our first 2 year old Hermanns we have named tilly in the morning.
It's been a few weeks getting all the equipment ready and setting the table up.

Getting first started with a tortoise can be quite a challenge!
It looks like your substrate is some sort of shavings? It looks quite dry. Many of us use either clean garden soil or organic potting soil or coco coir. They hold the moisture much better than shavings and don't mold.
your lamp looks like it might be a bit TOO close for comfort.
Most of us find that it really helps to have some sort of lid or cover to the enclosure to keep moisture in.

If you go to the very beginning of the Hermann's Tortoise section, you'll see threads that were specifically flagged and put up front there because they are very helpful.

Best wishes with your new tort! :)

I agree, the bedding/substrate needs to go. Some humidity needs to be added. Cover the enclosure or make the hide area warm and humid

Thanks for the input guys.
This is my first tortoise so I have done research and spoken to a lady who works at the pet shop and specialises in reptiles. She also gets vet referrals regarding reptiles.
So a lot of my info has come from her.
I am still and am happy to hear what different opinions people have.

The shaving is aspen and is made for reptiles.
As for the light I'll do a little more research and may make some adjustments. [emoji106]

Most likely her info will be wrong and/or outdated. Besides, they are more about the money then the animal. We are all about the animal and what's best for it.
