Today I lost an exception to the norm. His name is Rocket a Che Weenie at the age of 16 years 4 months. He was special in many ways. He is also the last connection with my wife Betty except Walker of all the animals we kept together. He will be greatly missed but not ever forgotten.KIMG3961~2.JPGThis is one of the last pics I took of him. This wasn't a sudden death it's been expected for years. He was diagnosed with fluid around the heart in 2020 by two different vets. So I made changes in his diet. I hope things don't run in 3s in this case. I just lost Kasey a Manecoon cat that was a few months older than Rocket last month.

Its so hard. Know that we are here and sending you comforting thoughts. When I lost the last of the critters we kept together it felt like a double whammy.

Len, I'm so sorry about Rocket. When you would mention him in your posts it was obvious you had a special relationship with him.

I understand completely about the last shared pet. Not long ago I lost Kisses, an 18 year old cat that was the last pet that Pete and I shared. There were three others before her. 😢

How are your 2 naked dogs doing? I won't even try to write their breed...I'll just call them "X's". 😅

I just saw this .... I AM SO SORRY. I think of Rocket alot, ever since I read your post about him not knowing where he was in the kitchen a year or so ago. I know your heart must be hurting so damn bad right now....I am so sorry. Your Love given to him as well as for him was very obvious instantly to me and I dreaded this day for you. As I write this with tears in my eyes I sincerely wish you Peace, I don't know what else to say. Rocket you were loved by many and will never be forgotten Rest In Peace Rocket.

Actually they aren't Mexican they are American hairless terriers, basically rat terriers.

Years ago when I had several Mountain tortoises sometimes one would end up flipped over. Rocket and his sister Seven would let me by barking their special bark letting me know something was wrong. But what made Rocket special was his ability to find hatchling eastern box turtles that had gone through the fence and left the yard. In one week I think he found 15 in the vacant lot next to me that I thought may have construction beginning over the coming winter building a house. He would also bring me hatchlings that he found in the yard unharmed.

From all your stories of Rocket he definitely was 'Mans Best Friend' and a special one at that. And with this story it's obvious that he was Torts and Turtles best friend as well. You gave Rocket a great life and as hard as this is, his life tracking down Boxies and the love he knew you had for him was a special thing. We all will miss Rocket and truly feel for you Len.

With Rockets and Kasey's deaths my daily life and routines have changed drastically. Kasey did things about the same time daily and that doesn't happen anymore. Rocket was a different story lately, never knew what he might do next and when he would do it. I have pretty much become a hermit because I wanted to be here with him in case he needed me to help get him out of a difficult situation. No need to worry about him any longer. They are both missed.KIMG4030_01_BURST1004030_COVER~2.JPGthe cans are to keep him from getting under the cabinet. He could fall asleep anywhere, anytime in any position near the end.

You were the best friend all the way to the end and no one can deny that. You may be in a place unfamiliar right now that he is not there needing your help, but in fact you are very needed right here! Pain isn't something that has a solution just something that becomes accepted over time and I wish you a peaceful transition from pain to acceptance. That pain will always be there wishing you can deal with it in a less painful way soon.
