Took a few pics of 11 and 12 today, The first picture is a little one found today on one of the busiest streets around with no wooded areas. It's 92 here today so no telling what the road temp is. The second one I found in my neighborhood, both are getting released in the country tomorrow morning.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1433534532.747093.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1433534549.304725.jpg this is the area the first one was picked up.

You have box turtle HATCHLINGS??? They are so cute, wow! How big do they have to be before you can accurately sex them, or how old?

I live in the City and the closest I ever see to anything as beautiful as your hatchlings, and the ones you release back are the weary, dying, ill-kept boxies in pet store tanks. Your natural "turtle world" where you live is wonderful, thank you for sharing all the pictures.

You're so lucky you can actually find them. I live central Illinois and have never encountered one in the wild. You have to go to southern Illinois to see them. It's so sad to see how much they've declined. I just love all the box turtle species!

All turtles are so well designed evolutionarily, this beautiful animal even survived a raging fire.
I never thought about that, we never could figure out what happened to her.

Add another to the list, I was on the turnpike today and this little one was stuck in the center median. 100 degrees here so no telling what the temp was on the asphalt. Going to get a good soak and a few worms then off to the country ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1437065178.775954.jpg

Beautiful turtles!

We have those folks here that act that way towards wildlife. I hunt too (we all do here in WV) and do it is a conservation thing and to give my family meat that I know the source of. I do it because I care about the animals and the environment. Most hunters I've met share the exact mindset I have about conservation and fresh food. There is, unfortunately, a small pocket of that community that just likes to kill things though. These would be the people that run over turtles and shoot cats. One of the few groups of people I despise. They hurt animals and make the entire hunting community look like friggin' sociopathic nutjobs.

This little beauty was brought to me after someone found her heading inside Walmart. Yes apparently she was almost in the door by the shopping carts. She will be released in the country this week.
