At what age do the eyes of ornates usually change? My babies are 5 years old and still have the baby yellowish grey eye color. My three-toed's eyes had started to change by this age. Surely it's going to be soon?

I can only speak for gulf coast box turtles, but my captive raised males all took between 8-12 years before SOME of their eyes turned red. I've also seen them be much redder certain years compared to other years. It depends on male competition and availability of females . A lone male with multiple females will tend to have redder eyes than a less dominant male amongst larger more dominant males.

I've raised ornates all my life. Sometimes the males eyes will never change, very rare but happened often. if they do change the male will be about 4.5-5.5 in shells. that's normally when they changed for me. what diet do you have yours on?

They get earthworms, butterworms, gutloaded superworms, papaya, mango, isopods, occasional low fat wet dog food primarily. They're still not interested in greens yet. Their food is lightly dusted with calcium at least weekly. Fresh UVB bulb, but about to moved outside for the summer so will get real sun soon. They were captive hatched and have been with me since then.

My little 5 year old male is 3 3/4" and his eyes are reddish-brown. I can't help as to when they changed, as he's only been with me for 3 weeks.ImageUploadedByTortForum1369948408.281888.jpg

I think he might be a she. Those are some brown eyes!

I'm positive he's a male. He proudly showed off his manhood a few days ago. I had been calling him a girl... ;-)
