I love my water turtles . They are funny . Every time you walk past them you think they are starving to death . Always begging for food .

Yep. He will hang in the water, totally still with just his adorable little nose poking out for 15+ minutes at a time!!! :). He does this frequently throughout the day.
I've read that since mud turtles are poor swimmers, they wait for prey to come bumbling along, and also scavenge in the shallows. :)

My musk turtles do this all the time - especially the adults in the big pond. Its really interesting the way they will stretch their necks so the only thing at the surface of the water is a little depression from the surface tension of the water that allows them to breathe without anything showing above water. Hanging on a plant they are almost impossible to see, yet are breathing at the surface! A real adaptation for their more pointed snouts!!
