I've had this plant in my tortoise pen for years but recently learned that the fruit is toxic to cats, dogs and humans but birds can eat with no problem. My plant has never bore any fruit by maybe it's not mature enough yet. I can not find anything on line specifically mentioning if it's toxic to tortoises. Anyone know? Please and thank you.

I’m sure that you have done some research. I guess i would be leery of having your tort eating the berries (or leaves).

Although this plant is not included on many toxic plant lists, several academic sources confirm that the berries and leaves are seriously toxic to humans and to pets. Birds, however, eagerly eat the berries with no ill effects.

Botanical NameDuranta erecta
Common NameDuranta plant, duranta, golden dewdrops, sky flower, pigeon berry

Soooo, best be careful. Why risk slight poisoning… ?
