So i kind of f*cked up. I have been using arcadia t5 6% UVB lights at 12” height for my baby greek.

Tomorrow i am going away for a month and leaving my tortoise with my parents so i figured i change the light to a 12% and put the fixture on top of the screen just to be safe because right now my fixture is having from the top with a metal wire.

Anyhow, i went to the store and bought a 12% tube and i cane home and i realized they gave me a T8 12%. On the arcadia website lighting guide it says t5 6% should be at the same height as a T8 12%.so i have to forget leaving the fixture on the top now because the store is now closed and i leave tomorrow morning.

My question is should I put the T8 12% in instead of my T5 6%?

Thanks

You can't do this physically (T5 and T8 are not interchangeable - fixtures and tube sizes differ). If you manage to find a T8 fixture, most likely reflector quality would be worse than of Arcadia ProT5.

At 12" Arcadia Forest 6% lamps are usable (however, Desert 12% are recommended because you get better dispersed UV light at larger distance). Set it on 4 hours timer (e.g. from 10AM to 2PM) and it should be fine for one month.

Keep your current bulb. Your tortoise will be fine for a month.
