Hello Everyone,
I am a first time baby sulcata owner. Today I noticed that my sulcata has some scales on his face that are a bright orange and they seem to be where it's cheeks are, and these orange scales are in both sides. I do not know what caused it. Is it normal or do I need to take it to a vet?

Might be stuck on food, but like it's already been said, we'll need to see it.

yea i wouldn't worry about the orange on his cheek, it just looks like food:D. but i would be worried about how dry he looks. what is the cages humidity? baby sulcatas needs 80%+ humidity in there enclosures. can you post a pic of his entire cage?

I usually kept it a 50 percent humidity but thank you for letting me know I need to raise it. I want him to be well raised. Here is the photo of his enclosure

pour a cups full of water in the enclosure so the substrate is moist. do you soak your tortoise daily? also the cage size needs to be upgraded. read this entire care sheet. http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/how-to-raise-a-healthy-sulcata-or-leopard-version-2-0.79895/

Right now I am in progress of building a tortoise table for him, that way I can make a bigger place for him to walk around and explore and get some exercise. And soak him in lukewarm water for 30 minutes about 3 times a week.

soak him daily till he is around 4 to 5 inches. when he is 4 to 5 inches he can be soaked 3 to 4 times a week.

Just follow everyone's advice on here and that little guy will be great. I joined this site a few months ago with several questions and enclosure concerns and it made a huge difference for my Sulcata. Toms care sheets are spot on. Everyone on this site will be very helpful for you. Welcome to the site!

Hello Brian. Unless the entire room where your tortoise table will sit is warm and humid all the time, an open table is not a good way to raise a sulcata baby. You'll need a closed chamber so that you can easily imitate the African monsoon season that these babies hatch into. Please read these:
