Hello everyone new here. First post. We adopted Tank about a year ago so i believe she is 4 to 4and a half yrs old. She was an apartment tortoise. Now she has a home and a backyard. Shes learning alot of new things like eating weeds and grasses( was use to petsmart food) and is learning my voice quite well. I can go on and on. My question is when i bath her (in a big kitchen sink) is it ok to hold her upright so i can scrub her under shell? She makes noises like she cant breathe so i dont hold her there but a few seconds. I just dont want her to be afraid of me as the man thats trying to kill her everyday. I bath her everyday cuz she comes in at night. Id say she weighs about 25 lbs. My son and I made her outdoor pin and she has an access door to the rest of the yard.20181228_131304.jpeg20190419_184507_HDR.jpeg

My sully Opo makes the same gasping sound when held in that position. I do like you and don't hold that position for very long.
Sometimes I need to scrub the poop off the bottom.

You can tip her up. You can also roll her on her side. You shouldn't need to do this very often.

Your tortoise needs a heated shelter. Bringing her inside at night isn't warm enough without a heat source. Looks like you have a box there, but its not insulated. Here are some examples of how to heat an insulted box:

Thank you for that info Tom but inside our house she has a box with heat lamps and she loves to bury herself in her blankets. The pic is just a box but thats for outside. We live in Texas where its only cold a couple of months a year and the humidity is always high. Heres a pic of where she sleeps. Warning: shes spoiled lol. 20190420_083854.jpeg
