This oneThere's a thread here on the forum about why not to keep Tortoises in pairs and many testimonials as to why. I can't seem to find it at the moment though. Maybe if you look around you'll see it.

Tortoises should never be kept in pairs. Give each of them their own enclosure, and all will be well.My female keeps biting little male and don't know what to do any ideas pls????

Why not to keep 2 tortoises together - a lesson learned the hard way
This is a copy/paste of an article I wrote on my blog last year. I've seen several new keepers ask the question of whether they should get a 'friend' for their tortoise, and so rather than keeping on linking to my blog (which feels kinda self-promoting, which is not my intent), I am creating a...www.tortoiseforum.org
I echo the others...
Tortoises are loners. In the wild they roam for miles, meet up to mate and move on. They don’t get lonely and they don’t want or need company. Another tortoise is simply a rival for food and territory regardless of gender or being from the same clutch.
You have got away with it so far, but now they’re maturing they must be separated and be kept separately on a permanent basis..
I could cheerfully strangle every seller that sells “pairs” of tortoises. It doesn’t work ever. And there never of a guarantee that you know the gender of any tortoise until they’re nearly full grown. You could well have two males which will make matters worse.
