There's a thread here on the forum about why not to keep Tortoises in pairs and many testimonials as to why. I can't seem to find it at the moment though. Maybe if you look around you'll see it.

I echo the others...

Tortoises are loners. In the wild they roam for miles, meet up to mate and move on. They don’t get lonely and they don’t want or need company. Another tortoise is simply a rival for food and territory regardless of gender or being from the same clutch.

You have got away with it so far, but now they’re maturing they must be separated and be kept separately on a permanent basis..

I could cheerfully strangle every seller that sells “pairs” of tortoises. It doesn’t work ever. And there never of a guarantee that you know the gender of any tortoise until they’re nearly full grown. You could well have two males which will make matters worse.

I didn't think it wud be that bad we've had em for 3yrs and only just started and thanks

Tortoises can get PTSD and lose their will to keep themselves fed if they're constantly being harassed.

It took 3 years for one of the tortoises to realize that they're the alpha creature in that enclosure, meaning the other tortoise, unfortunately is going to get bullied for the rest of their lives. I'm not going to waste time showing you gruesome pictures from a typical tortoise fight/mating practice. We're just trying to warn you so that you can separate them early before the same thing happens time and time again.

Tortoises should never be kept in pairs. Give each of them their own enclosure, and all will be well.

PLEASE! Keep your tortoises separate. Or you may have only 1 left or none. Because they can, and given a chance, KILL each other. You will have a very big vet bill.

BE SAFE and NOT SORRY.

I don't mean to be pushy, but I care and hope you do the right thing for your tortoises.

Thank you!

Thank you for that @JoesMum
