Then it's possibly a stone. That much soaking shouldn't produce that. Maybe a Change of diet is needed. Give us a list of foods you feed. @Yvonne G might have suggestions to possibly help

had him for 1 month so far and from what I gathered from the person that had him last he is 5 months old but i think that is a lie compared to pictures he looks more like 12 months to 18 months old. could this be a build up of what he went through with the previous owner/breeder?

It looks like a bladder stone to me. A combination of dehydration and too many foods from the brassica family. If your tortoise is the one in your avatar, he looks pretty much full grown to me.

Cut back on the kale. Yes I would most definately say this was from the previous owner. Sounds like you are doing everything right. So keep it up keep him well hydrated and luckily it's passed and hopefully there isn't more.

Your care routine sounds excellent. My only nit-picking complaint would be that I'd like to see more weeds and "natural" foods in the diet instead of grocery store foods.

I'm going to guess that this problem is due to the previous owners care routine. If he had not found his way into your hands, I'll bet that stone/urate build up would have become a potentially fatal problem. Glad he passed that stone and glad to know he will be having a great life from here on out.

Currently growing a ton of natural stuff but it's only been a week or so so that will take a little time. I live in the desert so access to these naturally is a bit scarce
Grow seed mixes in cement mixing tubs lol
